Sample Program

An AS&T student, in consultation with his or her Research and Major Field Advisors, develops a course plan that is individually tailored to the student's interests, goals, and background. The course plan may incorporate courses from several departments into the Major Field (minimum 18 units). In addition, the course plan includes a coherent Minor Field of at least 12 units in an area that provides complementary breadth to the Major Field. The full program must include 36 graded units of coursework (not including seminars and individual research units), of which at least 24 units must be graduate courses. The remainder may be graduate or upper division undergraduate units.

The following sample programs illustrate hypothetical four-year course plans for the Ph.D. degree in topical areas that have been pursued by AS&T graduate students.
