1876 Elizabeth Bragg graduates from Berkeley as a Civil Engineer the first woman graduate
1894 Julia Morgan graduates from the College of Mechanics
1900-40 In 40 years, only 2 women earn engineering degrees
1940-50 With the onset of World War II, thirteen women receive engineering degrees from Berkeley

Alice Agogino appointed Associate Dean of Special Programs in the College of Engineering
1995 Candace Yano appointed as Department Chair of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. She is the first women department chair in the College of Engineering at UC Berkeley.
1996 The total number of undergraduate women enrolled into the College in 1996 was 483, or 20.5% of the undergraduate total which is slightly higher than that of the national average of 19%.
1996 Tsu-Jae King appointed as Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences.
1996 Iris D. Tommelein appointed as Acting Associate Professor in Civil Engineering.

1997 The Julia Morgan Engineering Program (JMEP) was established to promote all students to achieve their potential and to provide educational materials about the contributions of women in engineering
1997 The number of freshman women who are enrolling into the College for Fall 1997 is 23% of the entering class.
1997 Mechanical Engineering Professor Alice Agogino elected to the National Academy of Engineering
1998 Xu Liang appointed Assistant Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering
1998 Professor Alice Agogino named to the Roscoe and Elizabeth Hughes Chair in Mechanical Engineering. The Hughes Chair, established by Cal alumna Elizabeth Hughes in 1991, honors her late husband, Roscoe T. "Bud" Hughes, ME '42, the co-founder of Hexcel Corporation, a manufacturer of honeycomb and advanced fiber composites.
1998 Professor Fiona Doyle named to the Donald H. McLaughlin Professor of Mineral Engineering. The late Prof. McLaughlin was associated with the University of California as a student, professor, dean of the College of Engineering, and chair of the Board of Regents during his 93 years. McLaughlin Hall is named in his honor. Homestake Mining Company, which he led as president and later chairman of the board, provided the lead gift to establish the chair in 1988.
