in Mechanical Engineering. The Hughes Chair, established by Cal alumna Elizabeth Hughes in 1991, honors
her late husband, Roscoe T. "Bud" Hughes, ME '42, the co-founder of Hexcel Corporation, a manufacturer of
honeycomb and advanced fiber composites. |

Professor Fiona Doyle named to the Donald H. McLaughlin Professor of Mineral
Engineering. The late Prof. McLaughlin was associated with the University of California as a student,
professor, dean of the College of Engineering, and chair of the Board of Regents during his 93 years.
McLaughlin Hall is named in his honor. Homestake Mining Company, which he led as president and later chairman
of the board, provided the lead gift to establish the chair in 1988. |
