Dean takes a dunking in the name of bonding
Ever wonder how engineering students let off steam during finals? One way is to dunk their favorite professors and each other. Here, Dean Newton awaits another dunk. EECS honor society HKN and the EJC hosted this bonding event for students and faculty last May. The Dean was dunked on the first hit and took multiple dives during his half hour in the dunk tank.

Prior to graduation, one ME senior lands a job that lets him travel the world

In today’s economy it’s a dream come true simply to find a job before graduation. But ME senior Danny Gold has taken his luck to the next level. Not only did he land a job at a startup this past summer, but he’s getting paid to do two things he loves, wind turbine research and international travel.

“It’s unbelievable. After graduation I will be traveling aroåund India and teaching locals how to operate renewable energy equipment,” he says.

Danny, who has focused his engineering interests on wind turbines, answered an e-mail from his professor, Liwei Lin, intended to solicit engineers for commercial energy research. Yen-Yang “Mike” Chen should have been kicking back and relaxing on the night before commencement. After all, at 8:30 a.m. on May 22, following seven years’ hard work, the engineering student would walk across the Greek Theatre’s stage to receive his doctorate in computer science.

Instead, at 11 p.m., Mike and his brother were madly racing ... [FULL STORY]
