UC Berkeley holds rank as number one public college, and Berkeley Engineering remains at third

U.S. News & World Report ranked UC Berkeley 21st among U.S. colleges. The first 20 colleges are private, which makes Berkeley the top-ranked public college in the country, according to the magazine.

Last year Berkeley tied with the University of Virginia for the number one spot, but this year Virginia tied with the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor for second place among public universities.

The College of Engineering’s undergraduate program retained its spot at number three below MIT and Stanford. Despite struggling with the crippling budget crisis that has hit the UC system, Berkeley has steadfastly held on to its coveted slot as one of the top three engineering schools in the nation.
