Get to know
your ASUC senator: a profile of Chris Abad
Nickname: Abad
Hometown: Orange, CA
Favorite study beverage: Starbucks Frappuccino
Favorite study break activity: Listening to music or talking on AOL
Instant Messenger
Involvements on campus: Danceworx (a student-run hip hop group on campus)
Why he ran: I was involved in ASUC and worked in the Office of
the President as as an intern and project director. Through those jobs
I learned that I really liked serving students.
Last year, only four percent
of ASUC money went to engineering groups. Engineering undeclared junior
Chris Abad wants to elevate that. The undeclared engineering junior
is one of three engineers elected to senate this year and he has some
great ideas on how to serve students.
Im trying to get more engineering groups involved in ASUC
and spreading the word about the ASUC resources available to them, like
free poster paper and storage space in Eshleman.
Abad wants to put together an ASUC student resource guide to advertise
the often overlooked perks the ASUC provides to student groups.
There are also issues closer to students stomachs. Due to a city
ordinance, Northside businesses currently close at 8 p.m. Abad is working
on keeping the businesses on Northside open longer so evening studiers
can grab food and coffee nearby.
Abad says his time in office will be dedicated to making life
easier for students.
