Engineering News gets new editor

Whew! With my first issue out the door, I can finally introduce myself. I’m the new editor here at Engineering News and am thrilled to be covering the myriad cool things you, the students, are doing.
Just recently, I was a student myself. I received my master’s degree in magazine journalism at the University of Oregon in June. Before that, I spent several years doing public relations for Microsoft. I’ve been published in the East Bay Express and Oregon Business. I like eating artichokes.
Now, at Engineering News, I am on the hunt for all kinds of stories. Have you started a new student group or won an award? Do you skydive for a study break? Did you win the campus hot dog-eating contest? Email events in your life – silly or serious – to rmjacks@berkeley.edu. I’d also love your feedback on Engineering News: what’s hot, what’s not. And, if you hate artichokes, that’s okay, you can tell me that, too.

Donations needed for charity drive
From November 29 to December 10, the Engineers’ Joint Council (EJC) is holding a charity drive to benefit Suitcase Clinic, a non-profit agency serving the homeless. The clinic needs hygiene products, so go home and take stock of your bathroom. Buy an extra toothbrush, tube of toothpaste or bottle of shampoo the next time you’re in the grocery store. Simple, inexpensive and a good deed to boot! You can put your item(s) in the bin located in the Engineering Library.
For questions, contact the EJC at officers@ejc.berkeley.edu.

She’s a Genius Corner winner!
What day would yesterday be if Thursday was four days before the day after tomorrow?
It’s Friiiidaaaay!
Kimberly Trinh, EECS senior, got it right first. Stay tuned, we’ll announce a movie ticket winner in the next issue.
