Genius Corner: Gain fame by playing our brain game

Grandpa’s Will

Grandpa seemed like a cheapskate, so he would have liked the fact that this week’s brainteaser is free. The first person to e-mail the right answer will have his or her name printed in the next issue of Engineering News along with the answer. Twice a semester, one of the bi-weekly winners will be picked at random to win two movie tickets, courtesy of Engineering Alumni Relations.

In his will a grandfather left each of his grandsons as many dollars as he had grandsons, and each of his granddaughters as many dollars as he had granddaughters. He did likewise with his four great-grandchildren and willed $441 for all. How many grandsons, granddaughters, and great grandchildren did he have?
