Save the date: Real World Engineering 2005
Join Berkeley Engineering alums for a glimpse at the practice of engineering beyond the walls of the classroom. Eleven panels will discuss careers in engineering and how a specific major will translate to a real-world work environment. After the panel session, enjoy food, drink, and one-on-one networking with panel participants at the wrap-up reception in Garbarini Lounge. Thursday, February 3, 2005, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bechtel Engineering Center. For more information, go to www.coe.berkeley.edu/alumni_friends/realworld/index.html.

CEE returns to Davis Hall
Davis Hall construction, to reconfigure several floors and to improve seismic safety, is complete. All CEE administrative staff and faculty who were in the Hearst Field Annex and the Ericsson Building have returned to Davis Hall.

We are the champions, my friends
UC Berkeley is the number one engineering and information technology university in the world, according to rankings published December 10 by the London Times Higher Education Supplement (THES). This news follows the THES's November announcement that Berkeley finished second in its first-ever list of the top 200 universities in the world, behind Harvard University. The world rankings were based on an expert peer-review panel of 1,300 international academics that was weighted by subject specialization and location.

Get involved in research
There are several open and newly created positions in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. Applications are due January 21 for the spring semester. For more details, visit http://www.coe.berkeley.edu/current_students/uro/index.html.
