Brainteaser

Genius Corner: Gain fame by playing our brain game

This week’s brainteaser might require coordination. But instead of twisting yourself into a pretzel, try to visualize the answer. The first person to e-mail the right answer will have his or her name printed in the next issue of Engineering News along with the answer. Twice a semester, one of the bi-weekly winners will be picked at random to win two movie tickets, courtesy of the Engineering Alumni Society.

Reversing the Sweater

Imagine that your wrists are tied together with a piece of rope, as shown in the illustration, and that you are wearing a pullover sweater. Is there any way that you can take off your sweater, turn it inside out, and put it back on again? The sweater has no buttons and you are not allowed to cut or untie the rope. E-mail your answer to editnews@coe.berkeley.edu with “Brainteaser” in the subject line.
