It was standing room only in Sibley Auditorium for a lecture by Nobel laureate and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory director Steven Chu (Ph.D.’76 Physics), one of the events celebrating Cal Homecoming weekend.

The lecture, entitled “Life as Beautifully Engineered Systems,” was an entertaining journey on the molecular scale through several biological systems—the workings of the ear, for example—to illustrate the exquisite design and functioning of life forms.
