The next generation of smart homes could have tiny wireless devices
hidden in the couch or tucked in the fridge. Just a few millimeters
square (shown here about 1,000 times its actual size), this is
Berkeley electrical engineer Jan Rabaey's PicoRadio. Operating
on just 100 microwatts of power, PicoRadios are outfitted with
myriad sensors to detect light, motion, and temperature.
